The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says Northbound I-405 and SR 520 will be closed in Bellevue on July 13-14 and asks drivers to use alternate routes from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15

What’s happening?

  • I-405: WSDOT plans to replace more than 900 concrete panels on northbound I-405 from south of SE 8th Street to SR 520 in downtown Bellevue because these panels are failing. During the weekend closure, crews will replace hundreds of panels between SE 8th Street and Main Street.
  • SR 520: The floating bridge will undergo its annual inspection. Crews on SR 520 Eastside will take advantage of the closure to install an 11-foot diameter fish-friendly culvert beneath SR 520 east of 108th Avenue NE.

Why are these closures necessary?

  • This work is important for maintenance and preservation on critical traffic-moving highways. There are a limited number of weekends this summer to accommodate all of the closures necessary for construction work.
  • By closing both SR 520 and northbound I-405 at the same time, crews will complete an immense amount of work in a short period of time, reducing the need for nightly closures over a much longer time period.
