The April 28 election ballot featured an advisory vote on Initiative and Referendum rights. Among those who voted, 55 percent voted in favor. The rights, if implemented, would give Sammamish residents the opportunity to bypass the City Council and pass legislation on their own, or revoke legislation passed by the City Council. In accordance with state law, only ordinances -- not motions and resolutions --are subject to the power of a local initiative or referendum, and there are a number of ordinance categories that are also exempt.
