Master Chorus Eastside’s popular All-American Independence Celebration returns once again to Issaquah’s historic Pickering Barn to commemorate the 4th of July. American music of all styles stands side-by-side with Dr. Linda Gingrich’s signature commentary to create an unforgettable Independence Celebration.

The year 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, so this year’s “Celebrate America” theme focuses on Lincoln’s life and times, complete with songs and sing alongs from the early and mid-1800s, readings from some of Lincoln’s most famous speeches, and the world premier of a musical setting of the Gettysburg Address by University of Washington professor emeritus Abraham Kaplan.

“Kaplan has an international reputation as a conductor and composer, and has prepared choruses for Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, and many other well-known conductors,” says MCE artistic director Linda Gingrich. “His setting of the Gettysburg Address is from his larger work, Lincolnesque, which he completed in 2014. We’re very pleased to have a part in introducing this stirring music to the world.”
