The city inadvertently released incorrect information last week regarding the annual maintenance cost for a city-owned building along 228th Avenue Southeast. The old Mars Hill Church, which the city purchased last year for $6.1 million, is not occupied at present. The annual cost of maintaining the mothballed building is approximately $50,000. The earlier, incorrect estimate was $150,000 to $200,000.
“We had an internal miscommunication here at the city,” Communications Manager Tim Larson said. “Unfortunately, we passed the incorrect information along to a reporter.”
The $150,000 to $200,000 figure was actually an estimate of how much it would cost to maintain an occupied and operational building.
The city has received numerous inquiries from entities interested in leasing the building. Those conversations are ongoing.
