Instead of breaking the law on Independence Day, residents are invited to dispense with their own fireworks and join thousands of others at The Fourth on the Plateau, a city-sponsored celebration and fireworks display at Sammamish Commons. In addition to the pyrotechnics, which begin around 10 p.m., the huge annual event features food, music, family-friendly play areas and much more! The Fourth on the Plateau festivities begin at 6 p.m.

“We’re doing our best to remind people that fireworks are illegal inside city limits,” Communications Manager Tim Larson said. “We especially want to get the word out to all our new residents in the Klahanie annexation area, where fireworks used to be legal when they were still part of unincorporated King County.”

To enforce the rules, the police department will be on the lookout for illegal fireworks activity during the July 4th holiday. The fine for possession of fireworks is $500; the fine for discharge is $1,000. Residents wishing to report illegal fireworks should call 9-1-1.
