City Hall to function as warming center

City Hall and other public facilities are closed for typical business Nov. 20 AND Nov. 21, as crews clear away debris from last night's storm.  We encourage everyone to stay at home, shelter in place, until the roads are safe. If you need a place to warm up, City Hall will function as a warming center until 5 p.m. on both days.

The King County Sheriff's Office Explorer Program is a volunteer program. It is specifically for individuals, ages 14-21, who are interested in investigating a career in law enforcement. The program will allow you to see, firsthand, whether this is a career you would like to pursue.

By working with the Sheriff's Office and Deputies, you will discover what a career in law enforcement actually entails. It is an experience that no book, job description, nor TV show can accurately depict.

The Explorer post has a rank structure similar to the Sheriff's Office. You will ride along with Deputies on patrol. This will allow you to experience the exciting, action-filled moments of a code response to an in-progress call. Conversely, you will witness the quiet times of early morning when everyone except you seems to be at home sleeping.

There are academies to attend. Additionally, through guest speakers, you will have the opportunity to sample several specialized units. These include SWAT, Drug Enforcement, K-9, Search and Rescue, Marine Patrol, Bomb Disposal, Traffic, Accident Investigation, and Air Support.
