City of Sammamish - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information & Resources
On the evening of Wednesday, July 15, at 9:30 p.m., Sammamish Police Department responded to a call of a home invasion robbery at Highland Gardens Apartments in Klahanie. This was not a random crime, as some of the suspects were known to some of the robbery victims.
A 25-year-old male victim was shot during the incident and was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he died from gunshot wounds. Three suspects, 18, 20 and 24 years old, fled on foot. Two were apprehended the next morning through the coordinated efforts of the Sammamish PD, two K9 teams, Guardian 1, King County Sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives, SET detectives from SeaTac and King County.
A third suspect, a 24-year-old male, was tracked to a location in the Bellevue area, where he was arrested without incident by King County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes detectives, SET detectives and TAC30 members.
“The City is grateful to the Sammamish Police Department for their swift response to the home invasion robbery in Klahanie Wednesday night, and to Eastside Fire & Rescue, who transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center,” said City Manager Dave Rudat. “Sammamish Police, using K9 units and partnering with King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes, worked through the night and the following day to successfully track down and arrest the three suspects.”
“I understand from Chief Daniel Pingrey that Sammamish community members calling 911 were instrumental in helping officers capture two of the suspects,” added Mayor Karen Moran. “This is an incredible community served by an incredible police department. While full details are not known yet as the case is still under investigation, I join my fellow members of the City Council and all the residents of Sammamish in grieving the family’s tragic loss.”
The three suspects are expected to be charged early next week.
