City of Sammamish - COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information & Resources
At its City Council meeting on June 15, 2021, Mayor Karen Moran, representing the entire City Council, joined mayors across the country in a national effort to combat antisemitism.
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) called on mayors across the country to sign a statement declaring that antisemitism is incompatible with fundamental democratic values.
The statement follows a call to action five years ago from Mayors Against Antisemitism, where U.S. mayors from all fifty states joined mayors across Europe in urging action to combat antisemitism in Europe.
Since then, attacks on American soil against the Jewish community must be confronted with the same urgency right here in the United States. According to the FBI 2019 Hate Crimes Statistics, American Jews, who make up less than 2% of the American population, were the victims of 60.2% of anti-religious hate crimes.
Mayors and the leaders of our cities and communities have come together behind this statement to say, “Enough!”.
Please see here for the agenda bill which carries the full text of the statement.
