January 16 is Martin Luther King Day

The Sammamish City Council proclaimed January 16, 2023 as National Day of Service in Sammamish, encouraging everyone in Sammamish to pay tribute to the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through participation in community service projects on Martin Luther King Day and throughout the year. You can find the full proclamation in the packet for the January 10 council meeting. Thank you for volunteering for a project or organization that is meaningful to you!

Looking for other ways to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Here are some ideas:

  • The Northwest African American Museum is hosting activities throughout Martin Luther King Day and provides resources and videos on their website.
  • Washington State Historical Society put together an online exhibit in honor of Dr. King in which you can also watch a video here on Living Voices performing “The Right To Dream.”
  • The History Museum in Tacoma is free on January 16 in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Visit their website for information about digital exhibitions and performances on that day.
  • The City of Bellevue is hosting a MLK virtual health fair to showcase businesses owned by people of color as well as share community support resources.

Please note that City of Sammamish offices will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2023 in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
